11/5/2019 8 Comments NEW! Butterscotch call ducks. We now have a new breeding pen of call ducks: butterscotch Appleyards. Unlike our other pens of call ducks, they are NOT from top quality lines, so are more affordable than our abacots, whites and silvers. However, they are still exhibition quality.
Hatching eggs are available from these birds, unlike our other calls, for £3 an egg. For 6 or more, this is reduced to £2.50 and 10 or more is reduced to £2.00 an egg. Ducklings will be available from the start of May and, depending on quality, range from £10-20 a duckling. Poults (6-8 weeks old) are available at: Pet quality - £25 a bird Breeder quality - £35 a bird Exhibition quality - £50 a bird Elite quality - £80 a bird Please contact us for more information, we look forward to hearing from you! The first ducklings will hatch at the end of March, and these birds will fulfill some of our reservations. Only after all reservations are fulfilled will birds become available to the public. Please remember that we ALWAYS focus on quality, not quantity, so we will only have 20 or 30 top-quality birds after selling our birds to the top breeders and exhibitors who have reserved birds. Reservations have now closed, and NO MORE ORDERS WILL BE ACCEPTED. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused by this. We will be breeding off the following pens this year - Exhibition Silver Appleyard Ducks Exhibition White Call Ducks Exhibition Silver Call Ducks Exhibition Abacot Call Ducks Exhibition Gold Laced Wyandottes Exhibition Embden Geese And the following ornamental fowl - Mallard Ducks Mandarin Ducks Widgeon Ducks Please note that availability for ornamental fowl is very limited, we generally only hatch 20 mallards and 10 of each of the other ornamental wildfowl. We have sold out of reservations for mandarin and widgeon birds, and have the space to fulfill a reservation for 3 more mallard Ducks. Below are some photos of just some of our breeding pens. If you are interested in purchasing some birds, please don’t hesitate to contact us on [email protected] or 01889 566800. Thanks, Management Upper Brook House Farm Photos of our breeding stock this year: On the 1st and 2nd, as many of you know, we attended the National Poultry Show of Great Britain. We didn’t do as well as last year (getting Best Marked Silver Call, and a couple of firsts in the white call category, as well as 2nd in the Appleyard class) but this was mainly because some of the show birds were still going through moult. Nevertheless, we walked away with 3 prizes, after showing 6 birds. We purchased 4 Exhibition Gold Laced Wyandottes for brooding on call duck eggs this Spring - for those of you who have reserved already, this is how your eggs will be hatched. We also bought a pair of top quality Silver call ducks, from our friend and top breeder Alison Lovell. They may only be 2018 birds, but the duck’s mum was the Best Silver in the country, and was featured on the front page of the hit poultry magazine, Fancy Fowl. We look forward to showing them in the future! At the bottom of this post will be a selection of photos taken on the day. Photos of the chickens and silver call ducks will be posted in the next few days. Let us know what you think! Remember: ALL Breeds we breed are available to reserve NOW! We close the reservations book on the 17th of February and after this date you will NOT be guaranteed birds! We have capacities of up to 150 birds hatched in a season as we like all of our birds to free range. Once 150 have been hatched, we will NOT be hatching more clutches. Please email [email protected] or ring the office on 01889566800 to reserve birds or for more information, thank you. 29/10/2018 10 Comments New Exhibition DucksRecently, we purchased three new pairs of exhibition ducks. Offspring will be available from these pairs from March 2019 onwards. We have purchased - A pair of exhibition abacot call ducks A pair of exhibition white call ducks (that have won at the National) A pair of exhibition Rouen ducks (which have won at the Scottish National) Below are some photos of the birds, if interested about the breed or buying some next season, please email us on [email protected] or ring us on 01889 566800. PLEASE NOTE- Just because the birds that we will hatch are from exhibition parents, it does NOT mean that all of the offspring will be show quality. A small minority of the birds will be pet quality. This means that WE HAVE PRICE BRACKETS TO SUIT EVERYONE. Rouen ducks start from just £75 an adult pair, and mint birds will sell for £350.00 - £400.00 a pair. White calls will start at £65 a pair and mint birds are £400-600 per breeding pair. Abacots start at just £55 an adult pair and mint abacots will range from £200-350 a breeding pair. Ducklings for ALL of the breeds above start at £8 for week olds, £15 for month olds and £25 for off-heats. Poults start from £24 per bird. Spare pet quality adult drakes are lightly to be just £15-25 (depending on the breed). Below are some photos. Please let us know what you think! Thanks. 16/2/2018 2 Comments NEW Silver Appleyard DuckAs stated in an earlier post, we had to replace our old drake from Graham Hicks (the world's best waterfowl breeder) as he was not big enough for breeding with. This new drake has settled in really well, he is a lovely bird. We have also had to replace the duck for s new one from Graham's collection, due to the same reason. She is beautiful but slightly shy at the moment. We will try to take more photos tomorrow. Let us know what you think of her!
